Wanna be BFFs? Here are 10 things you should know about me:
I love watermelon. Oh man, watermelon is amazing. My favorite fruit is usually pineapple…unless there’s a watermelon present. This year, I’ve perfected my watermelon consumption by tossing some Tajin seasoning and chamoy on it. My students insisted that I’d love it if I just tried it, and they were so right.
I have written two unpublished novels in the YA genre. I’d love to publish a book someday and may self-publish one, but yes, I’ve already written two books that clock in over 50,000 words each.
I have terrible phone anxiety. I won’t answer the phone unless the number’s in my contacts (and even then, I’ll let it go to voicemail). I freak out prior to making calls to most people and have to mentally prepare for it. What’s crazy is I spent a couple years at a previous job answering the one main store telephone and did a pretty amazing job at it. I just have trouble with personal calls. We have to be super close for me to have no issues making or receiving calls from you. Typically, if you need me, just text!
I’ve owned a variety of pets. Most people know about my dogs and chinchilla, but I’ve owned other pets. I’ve had fish from the standard goldfish to Jack Dempsey fish and some sort of piranha relative. I’ve owned parakeets and cockatiels. I’ve had iguanas named after World of Warcraft dragons. I love animals and feel a strong connection to them. I love talking to them and discovering their unique personalities and growing with them. They’ve been shoulders to cry on, sources of entertainment, and have even saved me from severe depression.
I really hate to clean, but I really love having a clean home. I don’t get any sort of enjoyment from cleaning. I know there are some people out there who enjoy the process, but I don’t. I love the end product enough to put in the work, though. I hate putting my laundry away and have been known to leave clean clothes in my dryer or laundry basket for forever, but I’m working on developing a habit of putting them away as soon as the dryer finishes. It’s so nice to have everything hanging in my closet or folded in drawers. I simplify my vacuuming routine by owning a Roomba, which is awesome. I do dishes frequently so they don’t build up in the sink. My mom wouldn’t recognize me and my cleaning habits because I hated to do them as a kid.
I used to want to be an Animorph. I loved the Animorphs books by K.A.Applegate as a teen and used to wish I could morph into animals like them. I’d daydream a lot about it and what I’d do if I was part of the war against the Yeerks. I read and reread all of the books and cried when it was all over. I wrote fan fiction (that can still be found on fanfiction.net). I had a website dedicated to the series. I have all of the books on my Kindle…as an adult. That series really helped me through my adolescent years and helped shape me into the young adult I became.
I haven’t ironed clothes in ages. I usually just toss something in the dryer and hope the wrinkles come out. If I need something to have a crease in it, I use my hair straightener on it. I’m not sure if I’m just lazy or what, but it’s worked for me.
I enjoy watching makeup tutorials and reviews on Youtube. I rarely wear makeup. I have a subscription to Boxycharm and receive awesome samples every month…that I never use. I love receiving them, opening them, and adding them to my ever-growing collection of makeup…that I never use. I feel that I’m not very good at using it and I don’t like the way I look in it sometimes. It’s something I’d like to be good at someday.
I want to be more than just a teacher someday, but I don’t want to be an administrator. I want to teach teachers how to be better at their jobs. I want to inspire people and train them to become better than they are. I want to be some sort of leader in education and develop my own curricula and help make huge changes in education. I don’t want to be in the classroom forever because I feel like I could make much more of an impact outside of it.
My favorite scent is vanilla. Get me vanilla candles, vanilla air fresheners, or vanilla-related (birthday cake, frosting) scents, and I’ll be your friend. I love, love, love the scent of vanilla. If I could live in a vanilla-scented world, I would do it.
What about you? What are some things I should know if I were to be your BFF?
